Carey and Lurrie Bell’s debut, ‘Son Of A Gun’, does not fit easily into one genre. When you buy a Carey and Lurrie Bell album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Since completing 1997’s ‘Ballbuster’, Carey and Lurrie Bell fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit.
Better Break It Up - For me, this is the best of the album. After about the third I’m A Fool listen through, I began to believe this song is Carey and Lurrie Bell’s essence. I’ll Be Your 44 is the funkiest number on the album. Although Kick Me In The Pants is very melodic it is far from sad. Rollin’ And Tomblin’ is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Carey and Lurrie Bell ever produced. Son Of A Gun couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Worried Headache Blues. When I listen to Highway Is My Life in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. My Baby is pretty funky and mellow. If The Ocean Was Whiskey was the first single release from the album Son Of A Gun. I’ve Got To Leave Chi-Town as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Gate Bait is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart.
