The sound in is really warm and Celia Cruz’s signature voice is still very much present.
A unique and uplifting song. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in El Merengue. No Celia Cruz song has come close to capturing my attention as OYA DIOSA Y FE did. Song CONTESTACION DE EL MARINERO is actually a funny song. MI SONCITO is a very catchy tune. YERBERO MODERNO is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. I like to sing along with PA’ LA PALOMA, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. All of songs on El Merengue and have something to say letting alone GOZA NEGRA. In OYELA GOZALA Celia Cruz spins a tale you want to hear to the end. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on El Merengue. PLEGARIA A LAROYE is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. NUEVO RITMO OMELENKO is another favourite of mine. Vocals of Celia Cruz in JUANCITO TRUCUPEY really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. ROCK & ROLL - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love.
