After seeing Santa Barbara, I had to have a good Celina Gonzalez cd. Since completing 1997’s ‘Santa Barbara’, Celina Gonzalez fulfilled their contract with EMI Records and where under no obligation to release another album. While no new Celina Gonzalez album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1997 tour in Asia. I wish that “Que Viva Chango!” album was instrumental.

Guateque Campesino which is my favorite is a truly Celina Gonzalez sounding song. Album opener Paisajes is a bright, upbeat ditty. El Hijo Del Sibony is simple, dignified and effective, Celina Gonzalez refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Oye Mi Le-Lo-Lei is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. I think El Refran Se Te Olivido is the best song Celina Gonzalez has ever done. Aurora is a good listen every once in a while. Mi Terra Es Asi is the albums biggest surprise. I can’t stop playing El Reto. Yo Soy El Punto Cubana - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Camina Y Ven - I like this one. Celina Gonzalez breathes new life into the music in Aguacero-Aguacerito.
