Now signed to Dalida’s Blue Note Records, the title track from second album “40 Success En Or” leads Dalida’s back-to-school campaign. This is one of the best Cd’s Dalida has dropped to date. Lead single “Histoire d’Un Amour [Historia de un Amor]” and “Bambino (Guaglione)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. One of Dalida’s best albums yet.
is the more seemingly obscure song on 40 Success En Or that bear up best to repeated listening.
Bambino (Guaglione) - A nice song. I like Ciao Ciao Bambina (Piove) because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Gondolier (With All My Heart) is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. In Gitans it becomes nowhere more obvious that Dalida has yet to define own style. I love the melodic melody of Come Prima (Tu Me Donnes) [From un Air de Famille] and to this day it makes me feel good. Romantica is the more seemingly obscure song on 40 Success En Or that bear up best to repeated listening. Love in Portofino (A San Cristina) is the most memorable and astounding. Blew our minds when we first heard Enfants de Pir(Ta Pedia Tou Pirea). Danse de Zorba is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Garde-Moi la Derni Danse (Save the Last Dance for Me) - Check out that bassline! Jour le Plus Long (Longest Day) is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Chaque Instant de Chaque Jour (Any Old Time of Day) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Dalida’s strong vocals come to the fore. Music in Que Sont Devenues Les Fleurs is exquisite as in all tracks of 40 Success En Or. Nuits d’Espagne (Spanish Harlem) - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Temps des Fleurs (Those Were the Days) is outstanding work of Dalida. I can’t stop humming along Eux. Bonsoir Mon Amour (Il Silenzio) is possibly the best song Dalida has come up. One listen to the sheer beauty of Itsi Bitsi Petit Bikini (Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot …) was all I needed. Ciao Amore Ciao is simple, dignified and effective, Dalida refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. What sets Grilles de Ma Maison (Green Green Grass of Home) apart is Dalida’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. In Parle Plus Bas (Le Parrain) you won’t find any flashy solos. Comme Disait Mistinguett gets you up and jumping. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Fini, la Come - a classic song. Il Pleut Sur Bruxelles is a bit of a show-tune. Il Venait d’Avoir Dix-Huit Ans is really the reason why I recommend buying 40 Success En Or. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on 40 Success En Or is Mamma. Il Faut Danser Reggae - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Kalimba de Luna is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Listening to Laissez-Moi Danser (Monday Tuesday) you can hear that Dalida has still amazing chemistry with band members. J’Attendrai without a doubt is the standout song of 40 Success En Or. Besame Mucho (Embrasse-Moi) is a medium tempo tune. Rio Do Brasil still maintains something of a specific flourish. The opening track Mourir Sur Sc is very much like you would expect from other albums. Paroles Paroles is a song to enjoy for years to come. Darla Dirladada (D’Apres Folklore Grec) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through 40 Success En Or. Gigi l’Amoroso gives good insight into the truths.
