There is so much to love about Deep Purple, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Live At The Olympia ‘96 is an amazing album, racked with beauty. It’s natural for Deep Purple to take a stab at ‘Fireball’ considering her long-professed love for Godless Cruelty. This is what good Rock should be.
Deep Purple has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving.
The sound in Maybe I’m A Leo is really warm and Deep Purple’s signature voice is still very much present. Album opener Ted The Mechanic is a bright, upbeat ditty. The song feels complete. As always, Deep Purple’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Cascades: I’m Not Your Lover is really a nice song to relax and listen too. Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming (7:22) - awsome. Woman From Tokyo is a perfect, simple song by Deep Purple at the top of his game. No One Came is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. I love the melodic melody of Purpendicular Waltz and to this day it makes me feel good. Rosa’s Cantina is a marvelous sing-along. Smoke On The Water - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. When A Blind Man Cries (7:17) a good melody. Deep Purple sings Speed King in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Music in Perfect Strangers is excellent as in all tracks of Live At The Olympia ‘96. Hey Cisco - A nice song. Highway Star - For me, this is the best of the album.
