This is the first studio album from Dj Premier since bad diagnosis in 1996. Crooklyn Cuts Tape B is an amazing album, racked with beauty.Mila Sparrow has compared writing for Dj Premier’s new album to that on ‘Crooklyn Cuts Tape B’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is The Roots - Vs Scratch
The opening track is very much like you would expect from other albums.
The Roots - Vs Scratch defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. Lord Finesse - Check the Metho is outstanding work of Dj Premier. La the Darkman - I Want it All one of the best in my collection. Jeru - How I’m Livin - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Jay Z - Regrets is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Heltah Skeltah - Therapy is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Crooklyn Cuts Tape B have ended. I like the agression and power of Greg Tate - What Is Hip Hop. I like G Depp - Head Over Wheels because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. This song may be the most meaningful. Common - The Bitch in You is a great opener for Crooklyn Cuts Tape B. Children Of the Corn - America - I just love it. Adagio - The Obvious Joint is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Dj Premier released so far.
