Since completing 1997’s ‘Cascade Range (Part One)’, Gary Jess fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Gary Jess was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Gary Jess and Mount St. Helens together. This thirteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Gary Jess has. Cascade Range (Part One) and Fire Mountain is really good.

This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Legend Of Harry Truman is simply astounding. Gary Jess must have run out of lyrics on the next track A Leaf Will Fall. Eruption is probably one of Gary Jess’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Genesis is probably the highlight of the album. Spirit Lake is just simply stunning. Voice of Gary Jess in Fireweed is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. I love the melodic melody of Johnston Ridge and to this day it makes me feel good. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Gary Jess. Mountain (Long Version) has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing.
