It has been sixteen years Harry Belafonte’ last studio CD, “Calypso From Jamaica” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. While no new Harry Belafonte album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1997 tour in South America. There is so much to love about Harry Belafonte, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Such great and happy songs.
Charming song, great melody.
The sound of Jamaica Farewell is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Matilda because the melody in the chorus is so good. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Mama Look a Boo Boo is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. The opening track Man Smart (Woman Smarter) is very much like you would expect from other albums. Kingston Market - This one is lively and fun. Jump Down, Spin Around is another favourite of mine. Island in the Sun is simply perfect. Brown Skin Girl gives taste of what makes Harry Belafonte special as a musician. Jack-Ass Song is possibly the best song Harry Belafonte has come up. When listening to I Do Adore Her, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Hosanna actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Harry Belafonte’s face. I came to like Man Piaba. All My Trials - A strong beat. There is amazing mix of music in Will His Love Be Like His Rum?. Music of Dolly Dawn is gentle, never overbearing. I think Coconut Woman is the best song Harry Belafonte has ever done.
