Since Julie London last CD (Julie…At Home-Around Midnight) on Virgin Records back in 1996, I have felt a massive void in my life. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Julie London energies, virtually a rebirth. Julie…At Home-Around Midnight isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Another great offering from Julie London.
is perfect and different song.
Strong, powerful vocals of Julie London in Lonesome Road are very impressive. They Didn’t Believe Me - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Julie London. I like to sing along with By Myself, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. From the moment you listen to The Thrill Is Gone you’re hooked. This is one hell of a track. In Goodbye the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Sentimental Journey is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Julie London ever produced. I like the idea behind Give Me The Simple Life. You Stepped Out Of A Dream is pretty funky and mellow. Let There Be Love is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. You have to get essence of the Everything Happens To Me’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Around Midnight. This is probably my favorite song on the album. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. I hope to keep hearing Julie London works for a long time to come. Lush Life to me is the best you can get from Julie London. In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning - Check out that bassline! Don’t Smoke In Bed is one of these floating songs. It took me a little time but I ended up loving You And The Night And The Music. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Something Cool, which shows, blatantly, how much Julie London has evolved as a singer. How About Me is probably the highlight of the album. But Not For Me defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor.
