This is the first studio album from Karl Denson and Andy Bey since bad diagnosis in 1995. I am not a real funk music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The D Stands for Diesel’ really is amazing. For older fans The D Stands for Diesel will put a massive smile accross your face. Another great offering from Karl Denson and Andy Bey.
Music of is gentle, never overbearing.
Although Bougainvillea is very melodic it is far from sad. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Grind because the melody in the chorus is so good. If you are a Karl Denson and Andy Bey fan, you will love Sunday School. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. Jam Sandwich the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. After few listenings I started to like The Grind: Reprise more and more. Steamed Water is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Tune-Up is a romantic if not formulaic ditty.
