‘The Cenobites’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Kool Keith energies, virtually a rebirth. Since completing 1996’s ‘How the fuck you get a deal’, Kool Keith fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Smart music for smart people.
This is probably my favorite song on the album.
I was forgotten is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Keep on has a fun tempo. Kick a Dope Verse makes a person feel perfect. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Kool Keith. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. After you’ve listened to Mommy, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. As always, Kool Keith’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Once you hear You’re late, you will listen to it over and over. I can’t stop playing return to zero.
