eleven years ago, Ligeti, Gyorgy briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “2. mesto, parlando”. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Ligeti, Gyorgy has. Ligeti, Gyorgy’s debut, ‘Musica ricercata, capriccio 1&2, invention, monument - selbstportrait - bewegung’, does not fit easily into one genre. If you love Ligeti, Gyorgy as much as I do, then Ligeti, Gyorgy Musica ricercata, capriccio 1&2, invention, monument - selbstportrait - bewegung is the CD for you!

One of the songs that always stick in my mind is 2. mesto, parlando because the melody in the chorus is so good. 3. allegro con spirito is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. 4. tempo di valse (poco animato) has a fun tempo. 5. rubato. lamentoso is a song to enjoy for years to come. 6. allegro un poco capriccioso is so unique, as each one of the songs is. 7. con moto giusto has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Ligeti, Gyorgy’s strong vocals come to the fore. 8. vivace. energico is a perfect, simple song by Ligeti, Gyorgy at the top of his game. 9. adagio. mesto (bela bartok in memoriam) is another favourite of mine. When I listen to 10. vivace. capriccioso in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think 11. andante mirurato e tranquilla (omaggio a girolamo frescobaldi) is my favorite song on Musica ricercata, capriccio 1&2, invention, monument - selbstportrait - bewegung. Only one song from Musica ricercata, capriccio 1&2, invention, monument - selbstportrait - bewegung named capriccio nr. 1 (1947) really got me. invention (1948) is such a cool and optimistic song that things can get just better. capriccio nr. 2 (1947) is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. i. monument is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. ii. selbstportrait mit reich und riley (und chopin ist auch dabei) is worth the money. In iii. in zart fliessender bewegung the music gets its power.
