Since completing 1997’s ‘Promenade’, Mekong Delta fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Pictures At An Exhibition carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. There were many famous songs of Mekong Delta available. This is one of Mekong Delta best albums
Mekong Delta sings in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved.
Within the first few notes of Gnomus it’s perfectly clear that Mekong Delta is living this song. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Interludium, which shows, blatantly, how much Mekong Delta has evolved as a singer. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Interludium (0:29) - awsome. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Bydtlo is such a marvelous and optimistic song that things can get just better. Some call Interludium from Pictures At An Exhibition as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Ballet Of The Unhatched Chicks great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.Samuel Goldenberg and Schmuyle - arguably the best track on Pictures At An Exhibition album. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Pictures At An Exhibition. Limoges-Le Marche (Lagrande Nouvelle) is the song that really did it for me. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. Nice and different song. Song The Heroic Gate (In The Old Capital Of Kiev) is actually a funny song. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Promenade is my favorite song on Pictures At An Exhibition. The first time I listened to Gnomus I was struck by its amazing sound. Some of the arrangements found on Pictures At An Exhibition are surprisingly edgy. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Ii Vecchio Castello. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Tuileries (Dispute D ‘enfants Apres Jeux) is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Bydtlo has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Mekong Delta’s strong vocals come to the fore. Interludium is Mekong Delta’s best work in years. The song Ballet O The Unhatched Chiks ending is my favorite… so catchy! I came to like Samuel Goldenberg and Schmuyle. No Mekong Delta song has come close to capturing my attention as Promenade did. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Catacombae (Sepulcrum Romanus) is outstanding work of Mekong Delta. Mekong Delta breathes new life into the music in Lingua Mortis. In The Hut On Chicken ’s Legs Mekong Delta spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Once you hear The Heroic Gate (In The Old Capital Of Kiev), you will listen to it over and over.
