Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of The Selecter on ‘My Perfect World’. This album has some very good songs like My Perfect World and Hearsay. It has been seven years The Selecter’ last studio CD, “Hairspray” which won Array Academy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. I wish that “Hairspray” album was instrumental.
I like the idea behind .
Hearsay has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets The Selecter’s strong vocals come to the fore. Die Happy is a strong cut, one of many. Listening to Sugar Town you can hear that The Selecter has still amazing chemistry with band members. Hairspray rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. The Selecter sings his heart out in Chocolate Whip. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Some of the arrangements found on Hairspray are surprisingly edgy. Rainy Day Women has a fun tempo. Vicky’s Magic Garden the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe.
